Cost vs. consultant

The challenge.

Millions of salaried Pakistanis dread filing returns. The FBR IRIS portal is functional but built for tax professionals, so most people overpay a consultant they don't fully trust or skip filing and risk penalties. The client wanted to guide a non-expert through their return in under thirty minutes, accurately and compliantly.

How we worked

The ADAS framework, applied to this build.

A

Architect

Reverse-engineered the FBR filing workflow into plain-language questions, and ran the design past practising tax advisors to make sure compliance was airtight before a single screen.

D

Deliver

Built the platform with smart input handling for the local context — salary slips in different formats, mixed-currency declarations, multiple employers, freelance income — with validation built in throughout.

A

Advise

Stayed on as their technology partner across filing seasons, advising on regulatory changes, updating slab logic when budgets shifted, and building the next generation of features.

S

Scale

Architected the system to absorb new filer categories, new tax types, and adjacent products like wealth statements and refund tracking. It now serves segments the original brief never imagined.

The outcome.

The platform took users from start to submitted in an average of 22 minutes, first-time-filer completion topped 80%, and the business grew on word-of-mouth, with submitted-return error rates staying under 1%.

Tax software fails when engineers build it without tax expertise, and tax consultants build it without product instincts. Both in the same room is the only way it works.
