The challenge
Every year, millions of salaried Pakistanis dread filing tax returns. The FBR IRIS portal is functional but unfriendly, built for tax professionals, not first-time filers.
Most people either pay a consultant they don't fully trust or skip filing altogether and risk penalties.
Our client saw the gap and wanted to build a platform that could guide a non-expert through their return in under thirty minutes — accurately, compliantly, and at a fraction of what consultants charge.
Our approach — the ADAS framework in practice
Architect
Reverse-engineered the FBR filing workflow into plain-language questions, and ran the design past practising tax advisors to make sure compliance was airtight before a single screen.
Deliver
Built the platform with smart input handling for the local context: salary slips in different formats, mixed-currency declarations, multiple employers, freelance income. Built-in validation throughout.
Advise
Stayed on as the technology partner across filing seasons — advising on regulatory changes, updating slab logic when budgets shifted, and building the next generation of features.
Scale
Architected the system to absorb new filer categories, new tax types, and adjacent products like wealth statements and refund tracking — now serving segments the original brief never imagined.
The outcome
The platform took users through filing in an average of 22 minutes, start to submitted. First-time-filer completion rates exceeded 80%. The business grew fast on word-of-mouth alone because the experience was so much better than the alternatives. Error rates on submitted returns stayed below 1%.
